“Digitally Transforming a Luxury Interior Design Icon” The Digital Evolution of Lori Morris Design

Role: Digital & Social Media Specialist
Duration: Aug 2020 – Feb 2022
Brand: Lori Morris Design (Luxury Interior Design Studio, Toronto)

The Context

When I joined Lori Morris Design, the brand already held a powerful reputation in the ultra-luxury interior design world — known for timeless elegance, billionaire clientele, and global design credibility. What it lacked was a fully integrated digital ecosystem that could translate this offline prestige into a scalable, revenue-generating online presence.

The opportunity was not simply “social media management.” It was a brand transformation — building a digital-first luxury identity, creating community, unlocking e-commerce, and positioning Lori Morris not just as a designer, but as a global luxury brand.

My mandate evolved organically into a hybrid role spanning digital strategy, content, e-commerce enablement, partnerships, PR, and community-building — aligning closely with the formal scope of LMD’s marketing and social leadership function.

The Challenge

  • A legacy PHP-based website with no e-commerce capability
  • Social media presence without a structured growth strategy
  • No centralized content ecosystem
  • Limited digital monetization channels
  • Offline brand equity not reflected online

The brand had prestige — but the digital foundation to scale it was missing.

The Vision

To transform Lori Morris Design into a digitally enabled luxury lifestyle brand:

  • Build an e-commerce ecosystem
  • Turn social platforms into brand, community, and conversion engines
  • Position Lori Morris as both designer and thought leader
  • Create content formats that felt editorial, not promotional
  • Build digital authority through partnerships, PR, and collaborations

The Execution

  1. Digital Infrastructure & E-Commerce Enablement

I initiated and led the transition from a static PHP website to a fully functional e-commerce platform, coordinating with my web development partner to rebuild the site architecture.

Key Contributions:

  • Rebuilt website for e-commerce functionality
  • Optimized all content and media assets
  • Structured product collections and navigation
  • Enabled online purchasing of furniture and décor collections

This transformation directly enabled Lori Morris Design’s official entry into digital retail — including exclusive online collections such as the Jacqueline Coffee Table, recognized by design media.

“Earlier this year, designer Lori Morris officially made a collection of furniture and decor objects available to purchase online, thanks to her new e-commerce effort.” — Architectural Digest Pro

  1. Social Media Growth & Performance Strategy

I developed and executed a growth-focused social strategy combining:

  • Organic storytelling
  • Community engagement
  • Paid social acquisition
  • Brand positioning

Results:

  • Instagram audience growth of +253%
  • Community expansion without brand dilution
  • Transition from static content to brand storytelling

Paid Strategy:

  • Growth campaigns for audience building
  • A/B testing campaigns post e-commerce launch
  • Consumer insight generation for product-market understanding
  1. Editorial Content Architecture

I created branded content ecosystems that felt editorial, collectable, and luxury-aligned, including:

  • Interiors for Zodiac Signs
  • It’s All in the Details
  • Rebel of Luxury Monologue Series
  • Artist’s Corner
  • Media-feature graphics for publications like WSJ, Forbes, Love Happens

These formats turned social channels into brand media platforms, not just marketing feeds.

  1. Brand Experiences, Events & Community Activation

I led the digital strategy, asset creation, promotion, and coordination for:

Showroom & Cultural Events

    • Muskoka Boat Rally (Rally for Kids / Holland Bloorview Hospital)
    • Multi-artist pop-ups at LMD Muskoka showroom
      • Live painting events by Michelle Vella, a Toronto-based pop artist known for my bold, vibrant portraits and signature big eyes style
      • Jewellery collaborations by Swiss/Canadian jewellery brand JdJ, designer John de Jong
  • Photography exhibitions by Toronto-based photographer and philanthropist Tamara Bahry
    • Wellness and longevity events with PearlMD

Each activation was designed as a brand experience, not just an event.

  1. Thought Leadership & Education

Positioning Lori Morris as a mentor and industry authority:

  • Webinars with Humber Polytechnic and OCAD University
  • Educational digital content for emerging designers
  • Podcast launch: “Lori” on Prairie Design Lab

This shifted brand perception from luxury designer to industry leader.

  1. Collaborations, Partnerships & Advocacy

Strategic brand amplification through:

  • Design Home collaboration
  • Elora Mill Spa giveaway coordination
  • Celebrity advocacy: Kyle Richards (4M+ audience reach)
  • Product seeding and influencer alignment
  • Cross-brand luxury positioning

These partnerships extended reach without diluting exclusivity.

  1. PR & Global Brand Visibility

Although not part of my formal scope, I activated my PR network to secure:

  • Elle Décor India feature (Dec 15, 2020) – https://elledecor.in/glam-in-the-sky/
  • International brand visibility
  • High-authority backlink to LMD website
  • Significant global audience exposure

This expanded Lori Morris Design’s visibility beyond North America into global luxury markets.

The Outcome

Brand Transformation:

  • Traditional design studio → digital luxury brand
  • Designer → global thought leader
  • Social media → revenue and authority channel
  • Website → commerce-enabled ecosystem

Impact Areas:

  • Digital revenue enablement
  • Brand authority building
  • Community growth
  • Global visibility
  • Luxury positioning at scale

Closing Reflection

My journey with Lori Morris Design offered a rare behind-the-scenes look into the ultra-luxury ecosystem — from billionaire lifestyles to elite design circles — but more importantly, it demonstrated how strategy, storytelling, digital infrastructure, and brand vision intersect.

The role concluded in February 2022 due to COVID-related business impacts and border closures affecting the U.S. market. However, the experience shaped my ability to build luxury brands digitally, authentically, and strategically — without compromising exclusivity.

This was not just a role.

It was a brand evolution story.
